- <p> Edu-tainment. That's how actor-director MARIO VAN PEEBLES describes
- his next film. In fact, Posse, a saga chronicling the adventures
- of gun-blazing black cowboys on the frontier, aims to serve
- as part history lesson, part high-impact action flick. Van Peebles
- feels that most Americans don't realize how widely blacks participated
- in Western expansion. After New Jack City, Mario hoped to make
- a movie that would be empowering. He tried to sell studios on
- a story about a middle-class black family. "They liked it but
- told me to put someone on crack," he says. So he came up with
- Posse. "You can sell it as a shoot-'em western, but people will
- come see it and grow."
